BRIEF CV - Bisi Silva
Bisi Silva has a postgraduate degree in curating contemporary art
from the Royal College of Art. She is based in Lagos, Nigeria, where in
2007 she founded a Contemporary Art Centre, an arena for new and
alternative forms of art. She worked as co-curator of the Dakar
Biennale in 2006, has been curator for exhibitions and visual arts
projects organized by important cultural bodies in other countries and
is a member of the judges panel for the Artes Mundi Prize Wales 2007/8
(an international prize worth 40,000 pounds sterling). She has been
responsible for a number of major art publications («Some traditional,
Some contemporary, in some African visual art practices» - Spier Prize
Catalogue. 2007, «I am the world, we are center, Contact Zone» National
Museum of Mali, Bamako, 2007, «Telling… Contemporary Finnish Art 7th
African Photography Biennale» Bamako, Catalogue 2007, «Eko for Show» M
Metropolis Magazine Spring 2007, «2nd Johannesburg Biennale 1997 ‘An
‘Other' Stop on the Art Trail»). She continues to teach and lecture,
attending conferences and symposiums, and has given talks at the Dakar
Venice and Liverpool Biennales.
