| Patrick Meyer Public space, public work, public meetings, municipalitycity, paths-cultures, poetry-texts, heteronyms: Patrick Meyer’s work is defined by the artist’s relationship with the global cultural and social fabric, outside of any monumental consumption. His work-open to the worldwide public-evolves within the scope of time, a time that is brought about by events, reactions and thoughts of the artist and recipient. In a word, Patrick Meyer’s work brings about meetings and sets rendez-vous, managing time itself, which through its self-definition functions as the basic principle for the work’s development. It is not always about meetings with the public, or as Marcel Duchamp put it “rendez-vous d’art”, vaguely stating that at some time during the day, any object that would come to his attention would be transformed into a ready-made object, but about rendez-vous leading to the developmentnot of the boundaries of art-but of art’s ability to endure, at a given time, within the social and cultural fabric. While relying on this dilemma, the artist builds relationships with common forms of expression that arise from the actions and reactions of the social sphere. This leads him to clearly underline these external relationships within a cultural framework that resists the “society of the spectacle”. One can say that his work is a kind of indirect social critique of the utopias of everyday life, through which he-first and foremost-is called on to take a stance, overthrowing all material impasses, while at the same time offering his public work (dimossios ergassia) to each one of us without any time limits.
