| Sencer Vardarman Sencer Vardarman uses a singular political map to depict the genealogical tree of the currency. The artist aims at a conceptual approach to a form of power that rids itself of its own power since it functions through a pseudo-scientific work that relies on the etymology of words and the conceptual origin of an everyday object. Functioning as a social-cultural fabric around which all financial interests were and are still being formed, the genealogical tree of money highlights the scientific aspect of a symbol that “traffics” the security and continuation of humankind’s evolution. At the same time, by abandoning any symbolism, historic truth or even intentions, it emphasises that the content is of no interest compared to the function of points and symbols. The acquired, impersonal organisation and presentation diminishes-one can say-its power, while at the same time reducing it to a game of forms and concepts that determine our reality. The power of Sencer Vardarman’s work lies in the whole process that transforms this everyday, ordinary means of trafficking political and cultural goods into a code that is deciphered through its social use-viewing, thus releasing any financial relationship that we may have with the object, which is simultaneously strengthened by the aesthetics of the object itself.
