| La Pocha Nostra-Guillermo Gómez Peña The Chicanarian Expo / Photoperformances Guillermo Gómez-Peña is one of the best international performers of the past two decades. A multi- and interdisciplinary artist, a writer and an intellectual -a reference to the preparation of speeches both inland and abroad is unavoidable-, a radio and tv journalist and commentator, a video producer, a virtuoso of language and continuously a pioneer in new areas of mixed communication. Travel, diaspora, migration and borders, power and sex, religion and politics, as well as all the demons and virtues of our multiple and parallel societies, in which the other becomes me, come together in his rich intellectual, artistic and creative world. In October 2005, the Mexican artist and performer Guillermo Gomez-Pena travels to the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands with his fellow Chicano Roberto Sifuentes, along with the Australian artist of Indian origin Rakini Devi, and the Mexican performer Violeta Luna, to present the performing show Archi-Fronteras. The Chicanarian-Sudaca Trade Company symbolizes and marks the dawn of day of October 12th. A large group of artists and co-operators from the island of Gran Canaria participated along with them in the show. Archi-Fronteras welcomed more than two thousand people in the exquisite scenery of the Urban Plaza del Pilar Nuevo, in the colonial quarter of Vegueta in the city of Las Palmas. Within the framework of presenting the performing show of this project, a photo session was also incorporated, which started in the morning of October 13th, 2005 at the Verneau Room of the El Museo Canario Museum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and continued in the afternoon, at the studio the photographer Teresa Correa, with the participation of Guillermo Gomez-Pena, Rakini Devi, Violeta Luna, Roberto Sifuentes, Silvia Antolín War, Jimmy Pedro and Dyangani Déniz and resulting in the creation of the portfolio entitled The Chi-Canary Expo. This portfolio published by BRH-LEON editions (www.brheditions.es), now presented at the 2nd Biennale of Thessaloniki and photographed by Teresa Correa, is the result of the recent encounter and dialogue of the artist Guillermo Gomez-Pena with areas of cultural and symbolic borders between of Chicanos and Canaries.
